Working with young people and children
Introduction
This course is geared toward those who may lack confidence when
working with young people.
It is designed to give all staff a sound basis on which to
develop their work with children and young people.
Objectives
To develop an understanding of factors affecting face to face
communications with young people and to increase participants
confidence in communicating and interacting with young people
effectively and appropriately.
Course content
By the end of this course delegates will:
- recognise key face to face communication skills
- recognise and understand possible barriers to effective
communication with young people
- recognise a range of possible causes of difficult or
dysfunctional behaviour
- understand the value of employing, an empowering approach
- understand the effect of group environments on individual
behaviour
- develop strategies to respond to and handle group
situations
- recognise when, how and why to work with and refer to other
specialists
- understand how to apply their preferred model of
communication
