Community wardens national occupational standards

Introduction

This course would be of benefit to those who work closely with partner agencies and local people - promoting community groups and facilities, and helping to build stronger and more confident communities.

Objectives

To provide new wardens with the underpinning knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable them to perform their duties in a professional and competent manner before undertaking their role in the community.

Course content

By the end of this course delegates will:

  • understand the roles and boundaries of wardens
  • be able to communicate effectively with the community
  • identify and reduce risks to personal safety
  • ability to plan and conduct a patrol
  • be able to observe, gather and report information
  • have the ability to provide information to the community
  • handle incidents that occur in public places
  • develop a local knowledge
  • use problem-solving techniques to help members of the public and partner agencies tackle local issues and concerns
  • function effectively as part of a cohesive team
