Mentoring skills for managers
Introduction
Being an effective manager requires a range of tools and skill
sets, flexible to diverse situations and individuals. Mentoring can
be a key aspect of effective management in the identifying and
realising of potential, vital in up-skilling, succession planning
and team development. However, effective mentoring often requires
diverse approaches depending on the situation and individuals. This
course aims to provide participants with the skills and techniques
to make the most of mentoring in diverse situations. If done well,
effective mentoring in management has significant potential in
terms of supporting individual development and team
productivity.
Objectives
- To understand the role of mentoring and how it can be most
effectively applied as a management tool
- To build the tools and techniques of mentoring including:
building motivation, mentoring frameworks and leading by
example
- To develop personalised strategies for use beyond the
course
- To develop participants’ understanding and proficiency in the
tools and techniques, we will be focusing on a range of skills,
including: communication, co-operative goal setting, active
learning, and reflection. In addition, the course will build on
implicit similar management areas including: emotional
intelligence, coaching and personal management
