Classcare
The responsibility for implementing maintenance work is split
between Kent County Council (KCC) and schools. This split is based
on guidance issued by both the Department for Children, Schools and
Families (DCSF) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and
Accountancy (CIPFA).
The Classcare scheme (PDF, 231k) operated by Property
Group, was developed to assist schools with their property
maintenance and repair duties. The scheme gives schools the
opportunity to transfer some of their responsibilities to KCC to
enable them to focus on day-to-day operations.
Classcare offers peace of mind by protecting the school's budget
from unforeseen property repairs and maintenance issues. Three
packages are available which offer different levels of cover
depending on a school's requirements. The scheme is solely funded
by participating schools that pay a fixed monthly sum based on the
package chosen and the school's floor area.
The scheme is supported by an in-house technical team and
provides one point of contact for reporting all building
maintenance problems.
Entry to the scheme is a matter of choice and there is no
compulsory requirement for any school to join. Currently more than
300 schools have signed up, which represents just over half of all
schools in Kent.
