Need a contractor?
The Select List of Approved Contractors is for use by schools,
KCC sites and licensed partners. Schools can access the list via
Secure Kent Trust Web, to request a username and password email
property.contractors@kent.gov.uk.
To be accepted contractors had to demonstrate they met the
following criteria:
- sound technical knowledge and relevant qualification(s)
- high quality of workmanship
- adequate taxation certification and insurance provisions
- robust health and safety policies
- environmental awareness
- financial capacity
- equality standards
Do I have to employ contractors from the list?
Schools have greater freedom under Local Management and are not
bound to the use of contractors from the list; however KCC's
procurement standards must still be followed as well as the
Management of Contractors guidance notes (PDF,414k).
If a school wishes to use a contractor that isn’t currently on the
list, schools can access the free vetting service outlined below.
If a school wishes to carry out their own vetting process, they (or
their advisors) are strongly advised to check their chosen
contractor has:
- Public Liability Insurance of at least £5m
- Employers Liability Insurance of at least £10m
- a Tax Exemption Certificate
- adequate financial credentials for the size of the project
- an appropriate Health & Safety policy
- relevant qualifications to carry out the work
Most Voluntary Aided schools are supported by a Diocesan Board
and have access to their own consultants and approved contractors,
however if they wish to make use of the KCC Select List for their
own projects they are free to do so.
Need assistance choosing or vetting a contractor?
Property Group can provide assistance with the choice of
contractors, the compilation of tender lists and the vetting of
contractors not included on the list. This service is free of
charge but sufficient notice is required, for more information
email property.contractors@kent.gov.uk.
Monitoring Contractor Performance
Contractor performance is regularly monitored and a set of
management procedures are in place. Should any contractor
consistently fail to meet satisfactory levels of service and
workmanship, they will be removed. Your feedback is welcomed about
the performance of contractors you use from the list.
The list will now remain open for future applications. If there
are general or specialist contractors you feel would benefit from
being on the list, please encourage them to apply at the contractor applications page.
