Air conditioning units - F-Gas regulations
The requirements of the F-Gas Regulations are currently being
phased in with a planned date of July 2011 for full implementation.
In addition to the requirement that detailed servicing records for
air conditioning units are kept; only companies with certified
personnel will be able to purchase hydrofluorocarbons (HFC’s).
It is illegal for a person to handle refrigerant gases unless
they hold a Safe Handling of Refrigerants Certificate and there is
a ban on the use of disposable refrigerant cylinders.
Responsibility for meeting these new regulations lies with
schools and it is advised that a servicing agreement is set up with
a competent contractor. Property & Infrastructure Support has
set up an Air Conditioning & Ventilation Planned Maintenance
Agreement (PMA) which schools can sign up to which meets the
requirements of the regulations.
