County Print and Design
County Print and Design (CPD) is a business unit of Commercial
Services, the trading arm of Kent County Council, providing a
complete graphic design, printing and finishing service, using the
latest technologies. Much of the work is printed in-house at CPD's
factory in Kings Hill, West Malling, on a range of 1, 2 and full
colour sheet-fed litho presses, whilst copying units based at both
Sessions House in County Hall and Kings Hill are equipped with
state-of-the-art digital and wide format printers.
Role
An important and growing role fulfilled by CPD for the authority
is that of print manager, whereby overflow work and work falling
beyond its in-house capability, is sub-contracted to outside
companies. By combining - or aggregating - print demand across the
authority and its other customers, CPD's print management experts
ensure that only the most appropriate and cost effective solutions
are employed. In support of KCC's "Backing Kent Business"
initiative, all outsourced work is, wherever possible, directed to
local, Kent-based companies on a competitive basis. This amounted
to nearly £750,000 over the past year.
Environmental credentials
CPD takes its environmental responsibilities and those of its
outside suppliers very seriously. Besides its ISO 14001
environmental accreditation, CPD recycles all of its aluminium
press plates, uses only vegetable-based inks, offers a wide range
of recycled, chlorine free and FSC certified papers and, via its
"New Leaf" initiative, ensures full compliance with all statutory
and regulatory environmental requirements.
