Business and candidate criteria
Business criteria
To be able to receive the grant, businesses must:
- be based in Kent
- have less than 1000 employees (applies to
units/departments in public sector and does not apply to social
enterprises)
- have not taken on an apprentice for the last 12 months.
Candidate criteria
To receive the grant the business must employ a candidate
who:
- Has been claiming Jobseeker’s allowance for at least 3
months
- Is aged 18-24
If your business does not meet the criteria, taking on an
apprentice may still be an option for you:
- For 16 to 18 year old apprentices, the government will fund
their training and employers pay only for the
salary
- For 19-24 year old apprentices, employers may be asked to
contribute up to 50% of the training costs
- Employers are responsible for paying their apprentices’ wages;
the national minimum wage for apprentices is £2.65 per
hour
