Staying in your own home
Many people prefer to stay living in their own home for as long
as possible. Listed below are services that can support you in
doing this:
- Enablement
A short term service that you could consider to help you remain
living independently in your own home is Enablement. Enablement
workers can help you to learn, or re-learn, important skills you
need for everyday life and identify pieces of equipment that could
assist you. This could prevent you from becoming dependent on
support that could cost you money. Our factsheet provides more
information about this service.
- Domiciliary
care
Kent Social Services is keen to help people stay in their own homes
and remain as active and independent as possible. We provide advice
on whether you are eligible for domiciliary care (personal care in your own
home), advice on the charges for this service, and where to get
help.
- Meals delivered to your home
Sometimes people are not able to cook for themselves, because of
illness or frailty, and this can put at risk their ability to
continue living independently in their own homes. To help them
overcome this problem, our social care teams can arrange for
community meals to be delivered direct
to the doors of those assessed to be in need of the
service.
- Equipment and adaptive aids
We will assess the needs of people of all ages who have difficulty
managing activities of daily living due to a physical disability or
frailty, for special equipment and/or
adaptations to their home.
- Assistive
technologies
Enable people with
health and care needs, such as the frail elderly and those with
Long Term Conditions (LTCs), to remain independent in their
own homes.
- Improvements and repairs to your home
Home Improvement Agencies are not for profit organisations that
assist vulnerable homeowners or private sector tenants who are
older, disabled or on low income to repair, improve, maintain or adapt their home.
