Mental health services for Deaf and deafblind people in Kent
and Medway
Our aim to to make it easier for
d/Deaf, blind, sight impaired and deafblind people to access Mental
health services.
Service user reference groups have been set up
in areas in East and West Kent and these help identify the
problems d/Deaf / deafblind service users experience when accessing
services and what can be done to improve these services.
We have worked with service users to put
together an action plan and put in place the following
services.
Outreach service
A specialist mental health and psychological
service is in place for Deaf/deafblind people. The National
Deaf Services provide the following services:
- Assessments
- Treatments
- Medication reviews
- Psychological therapies
The Outreach service is available:
- East Kent
The mental health clinic is held at Laurel House, Canterbury
Community Mental Health Centre, Canterbury and the
psychological therapy clinic is held at Hi-Kent centre,
Canterbury.
- West Kent
The mental health and psychological therapy clinic is held at
Kingswood, Maidstone Community Mental Health Team, Maidstone.
Interpreting service
There is now an improved interpreting service for Kent and
Medway.
National Deaf Service
Access to National Deaf Services is also
available from
South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS
trust.
