Mental health services for Deaf and deafblind people in Kent and Medway

Our aim to to make it easier for d/Deaf, blind, sight impaired and deafblind people to access Mental health services.

Service user reference groups have been set up in areas in East and West Kent and these help identify the problems d/Deaf / deafblind service users experience when accessing services and what can be done to improve these services.

We have worked with service users to put together an action plan and put in place the following services.

Outreach service

A specialist mental health and psychological service is in place for Deaf/deafblind people. The National Deaf Services provide the following services:

  • Assessments
  • Treatments
  • Medication reviews
  • Psychological therapies

The Outreach service is available:

  • East Kent
The mental health clinic is held at Laurel House, Canterbury Community Mental Health Centre, Canterbury and the psychological therapy clinic is held at Hi-Kent centre, Canterbury.
  • West Kent
The mental health and psychological therapy clinic is held at Kingswood, Maidstone Community Mental Health Team, Maidstone.

Interpreting service

There is now an improved interpreting service for Kent and Medway.
