What makes a good carer?
Adult Placement means taking someone into your home who is
unable to live independently and requires some practical and
emotional support. A placement can either be on a long term basis,
respite or as a stepping stone to independent living.
The people who use adult placements are all
vulnerable men and women aged over 18 years. They may:
- have a physical, learning or sensory
disability,
- be experiencing mental health problems,
- be an older person.
This may mean that they need help with some aspects of their
daily living. It may be they cannot read or write very well or
cannot count their change when they go shopping. They may not be
able to cook a meal for themselves. They may have communication
difficulties.
Single people, couples and families from a
wide variety of backgrounds and cultures can become adult placement
carers and no qualifications are required. We are looking for
people with:
- sensitivity and warmth
- a sense of humour
- an interest in helping vulnerable adults
- time to spare
- a spare bedroom
- some basic skills and knowledge required for a caring
role.
With a career as a Kent Adult Placement Scheme carer you can
escape a nine to five job and help make a huge difference
to the lives of Kent's vulnerable adults.
Applications cannot be accepted from people
who manage a household with a transient resident population i.e. a
guesthouse, taking students, or who work as foster carers, link
family or supportive accommodation providers. However foster carers
of a disabled young person can apply to the scheme if they wish to
continue supporting that person past the age of 18.
