Disabled parking scheme (Blue Badge)
The Blue Badge scheme allows severely disabled people
and those with mobility problems to park closer to shops and
amenities by displaying the Blue Badge in their car. The badge
allows parking in areas that are restricted for other
road users.
The administrative centre of our Blue Badge scheme is based in
Maidstone and it is from here that the badges are issued to those
people found to be eligible.
Medway, Bexley
and
Bromley councils run their own Blue Badge
schemes.
You can find more information about the scheme on our
frequently asked
questions page.
If you would like a disabled parking bay, you need to contact
your district or
borough council who can arrange this for
you.
Eligibility
You are eligible if
- you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability
Living Allowance or have a mobility financed vehicle.
- you are Registered Blind (not partially sighted).
- you receive War Pensioners Mobility Supplement
- you have a permanent and substantial disability which affects
your mobility and means you have considerable difficulty in walking
(discretionary rules apply). In this case we will ask you to
provide recent medical evidence to verify your level of disability.
If we are unable to make a decision based on your application, you
may be asked to attend an Independent Mobility Assessment which
will be carried out by a qualified professional. There is no charge
for the assessment.
If you are receiving treatment at an oncology unit or your
treatment is linked to a hospice, the form can be stamped on the
front with the unit’s official stamp to enable us to prioritise the
application at the discretion of the department.
