Vista Leisure, which runs the Tides Leisure Centre in Deal, has won an award for giving work opportunities to people with learning disabilities.

The company provides work experience, training and paid work along with a free membership scheme.

Kerrie Anne Brace is one of the success stories. She started with work experience in domestic duties and has progressed to now doing paid work on reception at Tides.

She is part of the WaLK project – Work and Leisure Kent.

Each person on the project is provided with job training and coaching through Kent Supported Employment, together with Vista Leisure, to develop their skills until they are able to move into paid work.

There are five adults with a learning disability taking part in the project, with four people progressing into paid employment with Vista leisure.

The WaLK project is a partnership between KCC’s the Good Day Programme and Kent Supported Employment.

The Good Day Programme works to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities so they have the same opportunities as everybody else.

Vista Leisure’s Employer of Excellence award was made by Kent Supported Employment.
