Leisure centre's jobs success story
Vista Leisure, which runs the Tides Leisure
Centre in Deal, has won an award for giving work opportunities to
people with learning disabilities.
The company provides work experience, training
and paid work along with a free membership scheme.
Kerrie Anne Brace is one of the success
stories. She started with work experience in domestic duties and
has progressed to now doing paid work on reception at Tides.
She is part of the WaLK project – Work and
Leisure Kent.
Each person on the project is provided with
job training and coaching through Kent Supported Employment,
together with Vista Leisure, to develop their skills until they are
able to move into paid work.
There are five adults with a learning
disability taking part in the project, with four people progressing
into paid employment with Vista leisure.
The WaLK project is a partnership between
KCC’s the Good Day
Programme and Kent
Supported Employment.
The Good Day
Programme works to improve the lives of people with learning
disabilities so they have the same opportunities as everybody
else.
Vista Leisure’s Employer of Excellence award
was made by Kent Supported
Employment.
