Adult Placement Scheme Vacancies - East Kent
Ms ‘F’ - Blean - Short Term
MF (female) lives with her dog in a house in Blean, 3 miles
outside Canterbury. She has one bedroom upstairs that she is
offering for Short Term. She is happy to accept referrals of any
age or gender.
MF has worked with adults with learning and physical disabilities
for the past 9 years and is able to support a wide range of needs
including incontinence, challenging behaviour and certain medical
conditions. She is also experienced in using manual handling
equipment and whilst her own home cannot accommodate wheelchair
users, she is willing to provide support to someone in their own
home.
MF enjoys her garden and the local countryside and would love to
share these interests with an Adult Placement person. She
would also like to help the service user increase their confidence
and develop their ability to do things on their own.
The ‘M’ Family - Cliftonville - Short and Long Term
AM & GM live with their two sons, 17 & 20, in a
large bungalow in Cliftonville, very near to the coast. The
family has a young, friendly dog and chickens in the garden.
There is good access to public transport and all amenities in
Margate. They also have a large extended family who are very
much a part of their lives.
AM & GM already have one adult placement, a female in her
early 50’s who has a hearing impairment. They have
extended their property and have two vacant bedrooms on the ground
floor that they would like to offer to an adult placement. AM
(female) is currently the main carer, but GM would give up his
full-time employment to help support additional service
users.
The sort of person they are looking for can be male or female, aged
over 30, mobile enough to be able to go out and about and be happy
to share their home with their existing service user.
AM & GM would like to provide long term placements, and would
consider short term placements, but not weekend.
JG – Herne Bay – Short term
J and S live in a large property with their two sons, aged 11
and 15, five minutes drive from Herne Bay. The family has a
friendly dog and a tortoise. They enjoy walking, swimming,
playing badminton and going to their beach hut.
J (female) will be the main carer, supported by S. She
currently works with young people, promoting regular attendance at
school so is available in the school holidays. J has
spent time at a local day opportunities service for people with
learning disabilities in preparation for becoming an Adult
Placement Scheme Carer. The family are very enthusiastic about
sharing their home with an adult placement person.
Initially, J & S would like to offer short breaks or short term
placements (school holidays) with a view to taking a long term
placement.
BW – Ramsgate – Long Term
B lives with her husband in a 5 bed Victorian house in Ramsgate.
The house is a short walk from the seafront and local town. B will
be the main carer although her husband will also offer
support.
The bedroom offered for a long term placement is upstairs, so
although she is happy to accept referrals from any gender or age,
she is unable to offer a place to a wheelchair user or anyone with
poor mobility. They no longer have any children living at home
although they do come and visit. They now have no pets.
B has 20 years experience supporting adults with a learning
disability, and her husband 16 years. They have both worked in a
day centre and B also worked in a school, she now works in a
respite care home.
The couple enjoy music, and C plays in a band.
They also enjoy trips out to local pubs and restaurants, and attend
local events and visit places of interest. The person placed would
be welcome to join them, although they would also be encouraged to
follow their own interests.
