Social care apprenticeship pilot scheme
We have been involved in developing a pilot programme, with
the help of our partners, which provides apprenticeships
within the adult social care sector.
This innovative pilot programme started with the first group of
apprentices in October 2010 with the intention of providing a
different kind of apprenticeship experience.
Please note: We are not currently recruiting to
this pilot scheme.
How it worked
- Countywide advertising followed by a competitive selection
process to identify the first group of apprentices for the
scheme.
- Wide engagement with local social care employers to identify
potential placements.
- A structured
central induction programme for all
apprentices to teach the basics of social care and
cover the induction standards
- Apprentices employed by a single employer, in this case the
South East Apprenticeship Company (SEAC)
- Placements with up to 3 social care organisations during the
apprenticeship to allow apprentices to develop knowledge and
experience of a range of social care settings.
- Training and support delivered by a nominated assessor/tutor,
in this case from Kcollege
- Independent mentoring/support for scheme from Kent Adult Social
Services
- Cohort meetings and group training sessions throughout the
programme.
- Independent external evaluation of the programme.
