Rachael's success story
Rachael looked to start her career in social care by
signing up to take part in our apprenticeship scheme pilot.
- What do you do?
So far I have worked with Charing Healthcare in one of their
homes providing care for older people.
It’s a residential home so I help with day to day living
including meals, personal care, laundry etc.
I hope to do other placements during the apprenticeship to learn
about different types of services.
- What did you do before this?
Before becoming an apprentice I was a student studying English and
American Literature.
- Why did you become an apprentice?
I wanted to work in social care but also to gain a qualification
and to have some support while I was learning so an apprenticeship
seemed perfect.
Working in social care seemed like a rewarding job and hopefully
one that comes naturally to me.
- What is the most important thing that you have learnt
so far?
There are lots of things….
The main one is the importance of getting to know each resident
individually so you can offer the best care suited to them and also
know how to respond to their needs.
