 Video transcript

Carer 1 (Female): I know I’ve got a phone number that I can ring 24 hours a day, if I need to. I’ve never had to, but it’s nice to know it’s there.

Adult Placement Scheme manager: We provide ongoing support for the providers and carers. That will include regular contact with our Adult Placement Scheme Organizers, regular opportunities to meet with other carers so there is a development of a network.

Carer 1 (Female): I have a Care Manager and there is a team for our finances. There is somebody there for everything and they are all most helpful, most pleasant and they work with us and for us.

Adult Placement Scheme Organizer: As an Adult Placement Scheme Organizer, my main role is to support Blossom and Mick, the carers in anything they want to talk about, in terms of planning anything with Mark and Karl. Also, because the scheme gets inspected by The Commission for Social Care Inspection, we come and look at all the paperwork and make sure everything is in order so the scheme can continue to be approved and function. But at the same time, when I come, I’ll see Mark or Karl and just ask them how they’re getting on, with what they do during the day. In one sense, it’s a check on how happy they are and it monitors the service as well. It’s done in a very informal way, seeing what people do with their life and try to build a lifestyle that they will really enjoy.

Carer 2: The support we had was incredible, we didn’t expect it. They helped us with our holiday and with your holiday as well.

Service user 2: Yes.

Carer 2: We have reviews about every 6 months, don’t we Denise.

Service user 2: Yes we do.

Carer 2: Social Workers and the Placement Officer will come down and chat with us about how things are going.

Carer 3: And it’s a chance for everyone to get together, Sue, Nan, myself and John and Sue’s Social Worker, all get together and discuss how the placement is going and if there are any problems or anything we need to do, differently.

Service user 3: I can actually talk to them and say what I am feeling as well.

Carer 4: We’ve done quite a few courses. You had to do the foundation day and we did the first aid course. On all these courses, you’re not only learning but you meet others in the same position.

Carer 5: They sent us a list from the KCC and you can choose which one you want to go on and they have them is several areas so you don’t have to travel too far.

Carer 4: We receive a lot of support from the Kent Adult Placement Scheme. We have our own Adult Placement Manager, Shirley and she comes out to us and we have regular supervision.

Carer 5: You have to be professional about your job. Confidentiality is very important.

Carer 2: I feel totally accountable to Denise and by inference, to KCC as well.

Carer 4: We also have a Care Manager for Paul and Debbie, Sylvie and she comes regularly to talk to them but she also is a good contact for me and we have regular multi-disciplinary team meetings.
