Training

A variety of training is available for people working in social care:

  • Adult Protection training
    Information about the levels of Adult Protection training, the training structure and further information about the training courses currently available.

  • Adult Protection Awareness Level 1 (PVI)
    This course is offered to all staff from an adult social care environment who, as part of their role, have contact with vulnerable service users.

  • Basic Awareness of Autism and Asperger's Syndrome
    This course will teach you how to reduce anxiety and enable you to take the first steps towards an ‘ecological’ approach to Autism and Aspergers.

  • Basic Awareness of Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neurone Disease
    To improve knowledge and basic awareness of both diseases and learn how the service user can be supported.

  • Basic Awareness of Parkinson's and Huntingdon's Disease
    To improve knowledge and basic awareness of both diseases and learn how the service user can be supported.

  • Catheter and Stoma Care PVI
    To provide a thorough grounding in all aspects of Catheter and Stoma Care and an in-depth look at incontinence and its consequences.

  • Carers Awareness training
    This course is for health and social care professionals to increase their awareness of a carers' role and needs.

  • CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering PVI
    The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health has designed its Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering to give appropriate staff an appreciation of the fundamentals of good food hygiene practice.

  • CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace PVI
    Candidates should appreciate the nature of health and safety and be able to state the consequences of poor health and safety standards and the benefit of good standards.

  • Community Equipment Refresher
    This training is only for those who are already trained as trusted assessors or community equipment assessors. Those who have attended the previous training will be asked to watch the training refresher video before answering a series of questions about what they have learnt.

  • Deaf Awareness training (PVI)
    This training is for all adult social care staff in private, voluntary and independent sector.

  • Dementia - End of Life Care (PVI)
    This is designed for all staff in Adult Social Care, to help respond to the ongoing experience of loss faced by people with dementia, their families and themselves to create a therapeutic environment throughout the progression of the illness and at the end of life.

  • Emergency First Aid at Work (1 Day) PVI
    To provide participants with sufficient knowledge and confidence to deal with an accident until a qualified first aider or the emergency services take charge of the situation.

  • Epilepsy including administration of Buccal Midazolam and Rectal Diazepam PVI
    Awareness of Status Epilepticus for all adult social care staff in private, voluntary and independent sector.

  • Fundamentals in End of Life Care (PVI)
    This is a one day programme run in an interactive and informal way to ensure each individual who attends receives practical advice and suggestions in caring for a person at the end of life.

  • Handling Medicines Safely (PVI)
    This is to enable staff to support service users in taking medicines in a manner which meets Care Quality Commission Standards.

  • Hydration and Nutrition (PVI)
    To achieve an understanding of the importance of good nutrition and hydration in maintaining well-being and recognise signs and symptoms of poor nutrition and hydration. Also, to be aware of ways in which to promote adequate nutrition and hydration.

  • Individuals Who Employ Their Own Care and Support Staff
    Skills for Care are an organisation who are committed to helping the growing number of individuals who employ their own care and support staff.

  • Infection Control (PVI)
    This course relates to handling hazardous substances and preventing the spread of infection.

  • Kent Learning and Development
    Providing an excellent blend of learning, development and consultancy. We are here to help individuals and organisations in Kent realise their potential and build capability to excel.

  • Mental Capacity Act training
    Information about the Mental Capacity Act training and the content of training courses currently available.

  • Moving and Handling of People (PVI)
    This course relates to moving and positioning, the health and safety at work act 1974 and manual handling operations regulations 1992.

  • Sight Awareness training (PVI)
    To provide a better understanding of good practice in meeting the needs of people with sight impairment in the workplace.

  • Skills for Dementia Care Module 201: Dementia Awareness (PVI)
    To enable you to cascade your knowledge and skills, to support the implementation and extension of a person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia.

  • Support Workshops for Carers
    Organised by 'Caring Confidently in Kent' these workshops provide a three week programme aimed at helping carers improve their lives and the person they care for.

  • Working with People with Diabetes
    To obtain a basic knowledge of Diabetes and the care of clients with this condition and to look at causes and lifestyle factors, the myths surrounding the condition, and the factors that make a person pre-disposed to the condition.
