The proposal
The Older People's Futures consultation
closed on 1 November 2010.
The units affected and the outline proposal for
each are:
| Unit |
Proposal |
|
|
We are proposing that it is sold to another organisation
for them to run. |
|
|
We are proposing that some of the services could be run by
another organisation, with terms set by Kent County Council.
|
|
|
We are proposing to replace these with Extra Care Housing. Extra Care
apartments offer older people the chance of a home of their own in
a shared building with 24-hour care and facilities.
|
|
|
We are proposing to close these completely within the next two
years.
|
|
|
We are proposing to keep this as it is. A decision about its
future will be taken at a later date. |
Why we are proposing this
The main drivers for this process are:
- more people are living longer and living with dementia. People
rightly expect more choice in care
- high quality care is a continuing priority. Dignity in care is
crucial and more people want care at home
- residential care should be in high quality buildings. Some KCC
buildings have reached the end of their useful life and don’t meet
expectations. All residents should have the opportunity to have en
suite bathrooms
- good quality care can be commissioned for less money. The
private and voluntary sector is set up to care for more
people.
Who is affected
We appreciate that this will inevitably create significant
anxiety for staff, residents and relatives and KASS will work
carefully with every older person affected and their families
through this process and of course with staff.
There are a number of staff who will be affected by the
proposals. We will be working carefully with staff to make
sure that people understand the proposals and how they affect
them.
