Better Homes Active Lives Project wins National PFI Award

On Tuesday evening the Better Homes Active Lives Project won the "Public Sector Joint Working award" at the national Public Private Finance Awards in London, beating strong competition from right across the public sector.

The award was judged by a panel of independent judges, composed of some of the most respected and experienced professionals from the public and private sector who ensured that there was a rigorously objective judging procedure. The judges felt that the award winners in all categories had driven PFI forward and made a success of existing operational projects, and the Better Homes Active Lives was described as "an excellent example of multiple public sector bodies coming together to meet a strategic need in the most efficient and effective way possible." The project is the first PFI project to be procured in partnership with 11 local authorities.

The Better Homes Active Lives project comprises provision of 340 specialist homes for older people, people with learning disabilities and people with mental health problems spread across 10 Districts. Tenants will have access to 24 hour care services allowing them to stay in their own homes for life, rather than entering institutional care.
