Telecare provides support and reassurance from outside of
your home, using the help of technology.
A wide range of alarms and sensors are available, designed to
assist you in managing the risks of living in your own home, such
as falling over or fire hazards. The technology aims to help you
remain as independent as possible.
Telecare has been piloted in Kent for the last two years and
during that time the service has been successfully installed into
the following areas:
• Ashford
• Dover
• Gravesham
• Maidstone
• Swale
• Tonbridge and Malling
Telecare has received strong support from central government and
is now a part of the
Whole System Demonstrator, a research
project, funded by the Department of Health, to demonstrate the
effectiveness of Advanced Assistive Technology in Health and
Social Care. As part of Whole System Demonstrator therefore,
Telecare will be rolled out across all 12 districts in Kent over
the coming months.

The benefits of Telecare have already been investigated on a
smaller scale by the University of Kent, who, during the pilot,
carried out a period of review and consultation with the people who
use Telecare. A report on the findings has been produced and is
available to download.
