Finding a counsellor

Below are a few suggestions of ways you could find a counsellor.

Your Doctor

Some forms of counselling can now be accessed through many GP surgeries, there would be no charge for counselling via your GP. If you do not have a GP you can find a GP via the NHS website.

Your Employer

If you are working it may be worth speaking to your employer as some employers offer staff a counselling service as part of a benefits package.

Local Directory

You local telephone directory will have contact details for counsellors, examples of these directories are Yellow pages and Thomson local.

British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapy (BACP)

The BACP is a good organisation for anyone to contact if they are looking for a counsellor. They produce a "Counselling and Psychotherapy Resource Directory" which can be found in most libraries. You can also search for a therapist in your area via their website.

Further details of useful organisisations can be found on the useful websites page.
