All of us, at some time in our lives, may experience
periods where we feel unable to cope with certain pressures; or
perhaps an event happens that affects us greatly, such as losing a
loved one. Often talking to someone who is trained and experienced
in counselling can help us get through this difficult
period.
Counselling is a positive process which is often associated with
times of personal crisis. It provides an opportunity for us to
re-find resources within ourselves. It can enable us to approach
our lives, our work and problems in a more effective and creative
way.
Counselling and Psychotherapy can be helpful for a wide range of
difficulties such as:
- Depression
- Relationship problems
- Stress
- Anxiety/panic attacks
- Low self-esteem
- Eating problems
- Sexual problems
- Bereavement and loss
- Trauma resulting from accident, assault or abuse
The counsellor you choose should be a registered member of a
professional body and should work to an established code of
practice. The
what to expect page gives you some guidance as to what you
should look for when seeking a counsellor. We have also included
some information on
how to find a counsellor.
Kent County Council do not directly provide a counselling
service but we have listed a number of links to both external
organisations and other departments within social services that you
may find helpful on the
useful websites page.
