Princess Christian's Farm consultation

The service provided from Princess Christian Farm has been under review by the Kent Adult Social Services Directorate (KASS).

During 2006 a feasibility study was undertaken of the farm. The outcome has been to create a vision for the future, supported by capital investment to modernise the facilities at the farm. It is our intention to achieve this through a partnership approach. A procurement exercise will be undertaken starting in November 2007 in order to find a partner that understands our business vision, and who will be able to offer a wider range of training and development opportunities for those people that currently attend the farm.

The aim is to improve outcomes for these individuals by increasing opportunities for them to learn new skills and further develop opportunities for them to move on into employment. This approach is being led by Central and Local Government directives on promoting social inclusion, choice and more independent and fulfilled lives.

The proposal presents an exciting way forward to provide an increase in the range of opportunities. However, we wanted to seek the views of all interested parties and these will be taken into account.

There was a ten week consultation process whereby we asked you to let us know what you think about the proposed changes.

The process started on the 2 August 2007 with a Member visit by the County Council, and meetings with service users, parents and carers and staff.

The consultation period ended on 18 October 2007.

Outcome of formal consultation on closure/variation of service use of Princess Christian's Farm.
