Access to Work provides advice and practical support to
disabled people and their employers to help and overcome work
related obstacles resulting from a disability.
As well as giving advice and information to disabled people and
employers, Access to Work pays a grant, through Jobcentre Plus,
towards any extra employment costs that result from a
disability.
In order to be eligible the disability or health condition must
affect the work the employee does and be likely to last for 12
months or longer.
Access to Work can help in the following ways:
- Communicator support at interview
- Support Workers
- Special aids and equipment
- Adaptations to premises or existing equipment
Access to Work pays a percentage of the total cost of approved
support depending on how long the person has been in employment,
what support is needed, or whether or not the person is self
employed.
Access to Work pays up to 100% or the approved costs for:
- Unemployed people starting a job
- All self-employed people
- People who have been working for an employer for less than six
weeks
- Support Workers
- Travel to work in certain circumstances
- Communicator support at
interview
