Independent living support scheme

We provide an independent living support service for adults with learning disabilities. This service allows them to continue living in their own homes and the majority of people we support are tenants in their own right who enjoy living in ordinary housing.

Every person has an individual support plan devised jointly with their support worker. This gives them choices and control over the level and nature of support supplied. This also means that the support can best meet their needs and aspirations, letting them live a more fulfilled and independent life. The support provided ranges from help with budgeting and developing domestic skills to finding a job and learning to travel independently. It also includes regular social visits, just to check all is going well.

The growth in assistive technology - such as online self-assessment, TeleHealth schemes and 'personalised' learning - is also leading to the provision of new resources to help people live independently. We keep these developments under review so that we can work towards including them in our services when and where appropriate.
