Contact Kent's police, fire or ambulance services by text

Kent's Emergency Services have launched a text service for Deaf people to contact the Police, Fire & Rescue or Ambulance from their mobile phones. The Kent Deaf service user groups worked together with the emergency services to develop this new service.

A leaflet has been produced, which explains how the service works and you can also watch a video explaining the service in sign language, on Kent TV (this link will open in a new window).

How the service works

  • Step one
You need to remember if you want the Police or the Fire or the Ambulance, that's important.
  • Step two
Write your text, starting with the name of the service you require (Police, Rescue or Medic). It's important to tell them where and what the problem is.
  • Step three
Text your message to the number 60066 - that goes straight to the communications centre.
  • Step four
Wait for a reply from the communication centre. They may need to ask you questions for some more information.

Important: A text message cannot be guaranteed to arrive quickly. We rely on mobile phone companies and their networks. We cannot be responsible for delays in receiving messages. If you don't get a reply quickly, try another way of contacting us.
