We provide services to Deaf and partially hearing people of all ages, through staff skilled in communicating with Deaf people and who have a knowledge and understanding of the Deaf community and Deaf culture.

We have two teams dedicated to services for children, families and education and those for adults.

Adults

Deaf Services for Adults provides services to those aged 18 and over, and forms part of the Sensory Disabilities Unit within Kent Adult Social Services.

Hi Kent provides assessment and provision of equipment to people aged 65 and over (this link will open in a new window).

Children and families

The Deaf Services Children and Families team is a professional social work service dedicated to working with families across Kent where there is medical diagnosis of deafness. The team works with children from birth to 18 years who are identified as children in need under the Children Act 1989, S17 (10) (this link will open in a new window). This includes children who are born deaf, have acquired deafness and the hearing children of Deaf parents.

Blind and deafblind

We are currently undertaking a deafblind development project for people of all ages.

KCC also provides a range of services for those who are blind and visually impaired, commissioned through Kent Association for the Blind (KAB).
