Looked after children

A happy family life is the most important thing in a
child's life. All families, however, experience difficulties at
sometime, perhaps because of financial, personal or health problems
and for some the strain can have serious consequences unless they
receive extra help. Kent Social Services can offer advice and
practical support at those times. We want families to stay together
wherever possible, because the break-up of a family is a sad and
traumatic experience for everyone. Our work with children and
families is governed by the children act 1989, which requires us to
help and protect children in need by working in partnership with
parents and carers.

Children's rights
The Kent County Council endorses the
United
Nations' Convention on "The Rights of the Child" (this link
will open in a new window), which is also mirrored by the children
act. Young people in Kent are helped to play a positive role and
provide constructive comments on the services available to
them. |
