A small number of children of all ages need planned day
fostering. They don't need to sleep at the foster home but do need
the care and attention of a foster carer during the day, perhaps
because they find attending school difficult or their usual carer
or parent is temporarily needing extra help during daytime. These
children may be feeling very unsettled and need day foster carers
who feel confident about helping a child feel safe and
calm.
In some cases the children may be out of school and particularly
challenging, so carers will need to be resourceful in keeping them
occupied and happy.
Sometimes day foster care is scheduled and sometimes it is
unplanned, and at short notice.
The rate of pay for this type of foster care is lower than for
mainstream fostering and so may not provide sufficient earnings for
carers seeking to make fostering their main career or only source
of income.
Please Note
Kent are currently prioritising mainstream fostering applicants
for assessment and as a result applications for day foster care
will be considered once we have the capacity.
