The Kent Youth Offending Service works with young people aged
between 10 and 17 years who are offending or at risk of offending.
It is made up of six Youth Offending Teams (YOT's) and is key to
the success of the youth justice system.
The Youth Offending Service reports directly to the Chief
Executive of Kent County Council and has wide ranging
responsibilities including:
- prevention of youth crime
- dealing with youth crime
- promoting safer communities
- ensuring that the victims of youth crime feel that the criminal
justice system works for them.
Kent Youth Offending Service aims to:
- confront young offenders with the consequences of their
offending for themselves, their families, their victims and the
community
- provide interventions which tackle the particular factors which
put a young person at risk of offending
- ensure that punishment is proportionate to the seriousness and
persistence of offending
- encourage reparation to their victims by young offenders
- reinforce the responsibilities of parents and carers
- provide all youth offending services within the context of
anti-discriminatory practice.
