Placement vacancies - West Kent

Mr & Mrs 'L'

Mr. & Mrs. L. are in their late 40's/early 50's. They live in Rusthall, near Tunbridge Wells and are currently foster carers to a young man who is now over 18. They are being approved as adult placement carers to enable them to continue to care for him into adulthood. They also have another room which they would like to offer to another service user as a permanent placement. This room is a large loft conversion with a sloping window.

Mrs. L.'s daughters and grandchildren live nearby and are frequent visitors therefore any service users would need to be comfortable around small children.
The house is semi-detached and in a residential area which is within walking distance of the small town of Rusthall which has a good selection of essential shops, post office, library, two churches, community centre, G.P.'s and dentist.

Buses run every 15 minutes into Tunbridge Wells which has a cinema, bowling, theatre, swimming pool and a large selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. Train station is one and a half miles away with trains to London and the Coast.

They have 2 dogs and 1 parrot. Smoker would be considered but they would need to smoke outside.
Mr. & Mrs. L. are being presented to the Approval Panel on 2nd December and if they are approved they will be ready to consider new placements after this date.

Mr & Mrs 'H'

Mr. & Mrs. H. are in their 50's. They live in a semi-detached house on a busy road in Tonbridge which is fairly close to the town, which has a good variety of shops, restaurants and pubs. Tunbridge Wells is a short bus or car journey and offers bowling, cinema and leisure facilities.

Mr. H. works very long hours and therefore Mrs. H. is the main carer. She is very experienced having previously run a successful Day Centre in the local area.

This is a non-smoking household and a smoker would probably not be considered. They have two fairly large dogs who are, initially, quite boisterous but soon settle down once they have met you.

Mrs. H. is keen to offer respite with a view to providing individualised care.

She is being presented to the Approval Panel on 2nd December and if she is approved she will be ready to consider new respite placements after this date.

Mr 'S' and Mr 'H' (long-term)

Ms. S. (late 40's) and Mr. H. (late 50's) live in a semi-detached house in a residential area close to Gravesend town centre. They both have a lot of experience of supporting adults with learning disabilities and they have been adult placement carers since March 2006.

They currently have two male service users living with them and they are now looking to support a third person. This would preferably be a male and it would need to be someone who would match well with their current service users. Their aim is to teach life skills with a view to helping people to move onto more independent living. This has been clearly demonstrated with their current service users.

Ms 'S' and Mr 'H' enjoy a healthy outdoor life and their interests include gardening, walking and cycling. Anyone being considered for this placement would need to be able and willing to join in this lifestyle. They would also need to access day care services during the week.

This is a non-smoking household and there are no pets.

Mrs 'K' (respite and long-term)

Mrs 'K' is in her early 50's and lives in Edenbridge with her husband, who is also in his 50's. They are both very easy going with lots of energy. Mrs 'K' has previously worked for many years as a carer in a residential home for adults with a learning disability. They live in a 3 bedroomed end of terrace house. The bedroom and bathroom are upstairs so the service user would need to be able to manage stairs.

Mr and Mrs 'K' enjoy trips out to the cinema, bowling, theatre and restaurants and a service user would be encouraged to join in these activities. Although Mrs 'K' does not drive this does not stop her from doing many activities with her current service users which involve travel on trains, buses and occasional coach trips. Pets include one cat and tropical fish.
In addition to offering respite Mrs. K. is now also offering a permanent placement. This would preferably be a female who is fairly active to enable them to share in the activities Mrs. K. currently offers to her respite service users. They would need to access day care services during the week. This is a non-smoking household.
