Policy and strategy

Five Year Strategy

The Supporting People programme came into effect on the 1st April 2003. Central Government gave Local Authorities the responsibility for the planning and provision of housing-related services in their areas. The Department for Communities and Local Government asked each authority to submit a five-year strategy to detail how they would do this. The Commissioning Body endorsed Kent's Five-Year Strategy in April 2005.

Kent Eligibility Policy

The Kent Eligibility Policy is a policy document covering the delivery of support services with regard to equality of access, guidance on the eligibility of service users and the conditions of both floating support and accommodation based housing-related support.

Strategic review of long-term accommodation-based services
The strategic review of long-term supported accommodation is part of the Annual Plan 2007-08. The aim of the review is to get a countywide view on existing long-term services, their strategic relevance, Value for Money and quality, and to establish whether they promote choice and sustainable housing options for vulnerable people. A final report is due to be presented in autumn 2008. The Commissioning Body has agreed the project plan, action plan and communication plan.

Strategic Review of Older Persons Services
The consultation period for this document ended on the 1st June 2007. All the information we were given was collected together and presented to the Commissioning Body's meeting in September. The Commissioning Body considered all of the information and agreed the following recommendations.

Factsheet - Research Consultancy: Improving services for older people in Kent

It is focusing on housing related services, i.e. those funded by Supporting People, but it is also looking at the relationship between these services and other community based services for older people such as those funded by Social Services and Health.
