Day Centres for Older People
If you find it difficult getting out you might like to join a
Day Centre run by Social Services or by another organisation such
as Age Concern. Here you can meet people, have lunch and get
involved with a variety of social activities including outings.
Services such as hairdressing or chiropody are often available at a
small charge. Some Day Centres can cater for more frail older
people. Transport to and from the Centre can usually be
arranged.
Social Services has many day centres in Kent. Some are
independent and some are attached to residential homes.
Other agencies, like Age Concern, also have day centres
thoughout Kent.
If you feel these services may help you,
contact your nearest Care Management Team and a Care Manager
will visit you to make an assessment of your needs.
Services Available for Respite Care
If you or your carers need a break from coping at home, many
residential homes offer short periods of respite care. It can be
difficult caring for someone who needs a lot of attention and also
frustrating being so dependent on others. We find it can help
everyone to have a break. Many homes also offer day care for those
who find it difficult to cope alone but are able to return to their
own homes at night.
There may be a charge for these services, but not for a Care
Manager's visit and assessment of your needs. If you feel these
services may help you,
contact your nearest Care Management Team.
