British Red Cross provide a new service, the first of its
kind in Kent, Medi-Call for people of the Maidstone
borough:
Medi-Call is compatible with the philosophy of
the British Red Cross of Care in the Home schemes, which aim to
support people in their own homes through the building of
confidence, enabling independence and reducing social
isolation.
Acting purely as a prompt for self-medication, the British Red
Cross aim to ensure an easier transition to new or revised
medication regimes. The service will be available for fourteen
days, with the volunteer making as many calls as the service user
requires.
Delivered entirely over the telephone,
Medi-Call will offer a new sense of support to
service users through conversation and encouragement, to help
empowerment and diminishing the need for unnecessary admissions or
re-admissions to hospital via good medication management.
