Brighter futures for older people in Kent
What is the Brighter Futures Group
The Brighter Futures Group (BFG) is a partnership between Adult
Social Services, Primary Care Trusts and the voluntary sector and
is funded with £1.39m from the treasury.
The aims of the Brighter Futures Group:
- To increase independence for older people and reduce social
isolation by increasing community participation
- To promote "Active Older People Alongside Less Active Older
People". To increase the number of active older people as trained
volunteers carrying out a wide range of activities with less active
older people; this will have a positive effect on their quality of
life, well-being, health and longevity and foster a sense of
neighbourhood and community spirit.
- To prevent avoidable admissions into care homes and
hospitals
The BFG Programme targets those people aged over 75 who are
living alone, in poor housing and on a low income. We want to
reduce the isolation and loneliness that older people can face and
help them to stay independently and comfortably in their own
homes.
How the Brighter Futures Group aims are achieved:
Voluntary sector partners have created projects that offer a
wide range of activities to support the BFG aims :

- Supported discharge from hospital
- Accompanied Transport Service
- Practical and emotional support with everyday tasks :
