Services in Sevenoaks
Sevenoaks Volunteer Development Agency (SVDA)
Sevenoaks Brighter Futures for older people
The Sevenoaks Brighter Futures for Older People project offer
the following services for people of the Sevenoaks District :
- Befriending - trained and supported volunteers
make regular visits to a lonely or isolated older person.
Befrienders offer companionship, practical and emotional support
and signpost relevant community services. They facilitate a
preventive approach, serving as an extra set of eyes and ears in
the community - noticing early warning signs and helping the older
person to review their choices. Shared interests can form the basis
for activity - a game of scrabble or a walk in the local nature
reserve.
- Driving - to assist with journeys to hospital
appointments, day centres, lunch clubs, or journeys to the shops -
for those who have difficulties with public transport.
- Escorted errands service with volunteer
transport provided.
- Individual shopping service tailored to
individual needs.
- Stepping Out - a weekly meeting for exercise,
information and friendship. A full programme of activities will be
available every Thursday between 2pm and 4pm at Bessels Green.
Transport is available if required.
Read the Stepping Out leaflet for further information.
- Support with technology, particularly home
computers, internet cafes and TeleHealth equipment.
- Information on local support services for
older people via the Action Desk.
