Adults and older people

Assess your needs online to find out if we could help you. We are committed to helping people live safe and fulfilling lives in their own homes. We do this by providing support and equipment to those who are eligible.

Many people prefer to stay living in their own home for as long as possible. Listed on this page are services that can support people in doing this.

If you are thinking about going into residential care you probably have some important questions you would like answering. Start by Contacting your local Social Services office.

If you find it difficult getting out you might like to join a Day Centre run by Social Services or by another organisation such as Age Concern. If you or your carers need a break from coping at home, many residential homes offer short periods of respite care.

The Kent and Medway Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Committee meets three monthly. Statutory, private and voluntary sectors agencies and services from Kent and Medway working with vulnerable adults are represented on the committee. Service user representatives are part of the committee.

A partnership between Adult Social Services, Primary Care Trusts and voluntary and community organisations. Supporting older people in staying independent in the community and reducing avoidable admissions into hospital and care homes.

ElderGames is an innovative European Commission funded research project with the purpose of developing a series of information technology based games, which can contribute to improving the quality of life of older people.

The Mental Capacity Act 2005 provides a statutory framework for assessing whether a person has capacity to make decisions for themselves.The aim of the framework will be to empower and protect vulnerable people who are not able to make their own decisions due to a mental health condition or learning disability.

Supporting People helps vulnerable people to have a better quality of life by providing housing-related support services. The programme helps pay for the services that allow people to live independently in the community.
