Travelling allowances
All employees who use their cars for their work will receive a
travelling allowance. There are different types of allowance
dependent on the number of business miles you need to travel during
the year.
Car loans
Some employees are eligible for a loan under the Council's
assisted car purchase scheme. Interest will be charged at a fixed
rate throughout the period of the loan.
Lease cars
Some employees (including all social workers) are eligible for a
lease car. In terms of convenience and cost the Kent County Council
Leased Car Scheme is excellent.
For a reasonable monthly payment you can have a brand new car,
chosen from the car scheme list (subject to no second hand leases
being available). You may choose its colour and have extras fitted
at minimal cost. Cars are replaced at four yearly intervals.
The monthly payments which are deducted from your salary
include:
- Tax
- Insurance
- Breakdown cover
- Accident Repairs
- Replacement car if your car is off the road for more than six
days.
Whether you are using your car for business or private driving
all the benefits above apply. Your partner and children may also
drive the car, subject of course to acceptance by the County's
insurers.
You will be required to pay for fuel and oil but an allowance
for fuel used on business mileage will be paid according to the
current rate per mile.
It's a great package, particularly as you can treat your lease
car just as your own - but minus the high costs and
hassle. |
