Pay
Kent has career grade structures for many staff and pay
progression is reviewed in accordance with the competency criteria.
For social workers, Kent's competency framework is based on the UK
Standards of Post Qualifying Awards in Social Work.
Pay rates are determined by the County Council and are reviewed
in April of each year. Salaries are paid by bank credit transfer on
the 25th of each month. Payment can also be paid into a building
society if you prefer.
Hours
The normal working week is 37 hours. Details of the working
arrangements of hours will be supplied if you are invited to
interview.
We offer a range of flexible working arrangements, including
flexi-time, 9 day fortnight, term-time only working, and part-time
work, to name but a few. Other working patterns can also be agreed
with local line managers.
Holidays
The annual leave year runs from 1st April to 31st March and
entitlement varies according to your salary and length of service.
The current minimum entitlement for full-time staff is 22 days
rising to a maximum of 30 days. Your leave entitlement during the
first year is calculated on a pro-rata basis according to each
complete month of service.
As part of our flexible working arrangements, we operate a
scheme giving staff the opportunity to buy additional annual leave
or, should they wish, sell it.
In addition, you will receive paid leave on the eight public
holidays and also one extra concessionary day fixed at the
Christmas break.
Other leave
In Kent we offer a full range of leave provisions both paid and
unpaid, including;
- Emergency leave in cases of domestic crisis
- Maternity, paternity, adoption and parental leave
- Career Breaks
Sick pay
The Council operates a sick pay scheme. The minimum sick pay is
one month on full pay increasing to one month on full pay and two
months of half pay after four months' service. This progressively
rises to a maximum of six months on full pay and six months on half
pay after five years' service.
Pension Scheme
All employees have the option to join the Local Government
Pension Scheme, which provides final salary pension benefits and
life assurance cover. This is an excellent scheme and you will
receive detailed information about it if you are offered a job.
The scheme is funded by contributions both from the County
Council and employees. Your contribution rate will be between 5.5%
and 7.5% depending on your full time equivalent pay. You may be
able to transfer contributions from previous pension schemes that
you belonged to.
Staff Discount Card
As an employee of the County Council you will be supplied with a
Value Plus staff discount card which makes available discounts at
over 50 outlets ranging from reduced rates for car insurance and
package holidays to furniture.
Childcare vouchers
We run a childcare voucher scheme, which can be used to pay for
registered child care. The vouchers are exempt from National
Insurance reducing the cost of the childcare by up to 11%.
Training
Your training is very important to us and as part of your
personal development plan an appropriate training schedule will be
agreed with you to meet your ongoing professional and personal
development.
Health check
A satisfactory medical report is needed before a job offer can
be confirmed. You will be asked to complete a pre-employment
questionnaire, which is passed directly to our Occupational Health
Adviser. Any information you give is confidential. If the
Occupational Health Adviser feels that they require further
information you will be contacted.
Healthcare
KCC has arrangements with both the Hospital Savings Association
(HSA) and Benenden Healthcare giving employees the opportunity to
take out their own healthcare packages. We also have a fully
qualified Occupational Health team to offer professional support
and guidance. |
