Older People's Provision

Kent Adult Social Services provides a range of nursing, residential and day care services for older people.
The service operates across the whole of Kent except Medway. Some of the services offered are:

Recuperative Care

Recuperative Care is a service which provides people over 55 years of age with a short period of intensive rehabilitation with the aim of rebuilding skills and confidence needed to return them to living as independently as possible. The registered care centres employ a wide range of staff including Occupational Therapists, Team Leaders, Recuperative care workers, domestic's and clerical support staff who are all willing to assist people undergoing rehabilitation and will play a part through practical help and encouragement.

Long Term Care

Registered care centres provide care for physically frail older people who are unable to live independently. Staff are trained to national standards to meet the personal, social and emotional needs of residents whilst encouraging them to express their views and wishes on all aspects of their daily lives. Every effort is made to help each person retain their status and dignity by maintaining their independence for as long as they are able to do so.

What experience is required?

The level of experience required depends on the type of post applied for. Care workers may join the service with little experience but should have an understanding of the needs of older people and be willing to undertake an NVQ care award. Recuperative Care workers should have an NVQ 2 care award already and at least one years relevant experience.

What Skills are required?

  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding of the needs of older people
  • Observation skills
  • Ability to undertake assessment of individual needs
  • Able to work in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Commitment to supporting others to achieve independence.

What Hours could I work?

Our services are available 24 hours a day 365 days a year so all team members must be able to work shifts, including some weekends and bank holidays. Staff are also employed to work at night. A range of full and part time positions are available, there are also opportunities for permanent relief staff.
