How did you come to be working in Social Care?
From my work as a nurse, I developed an interest in social care and the wider picture outside of 'the organisation'.

What is your working pattern?
Full Time.

How long have you been working in this role?
5 Years.

Could you briefly describe a "typical" day?
A typical day would be to spend time with my clients and their families with the intention of finding ways to maximise their quality of life and offering the necessary support. This may include housing problems, packages of care, respite care, accessing educational programmes, rehabilitation programmes or arranging 24 hour care placements.

What is the best thing about your job?
My job offers variety, creativity, autonomy and the opportunity for continued learning.

My ambition for the future
Continued development and possible promotion within social care.

How would people get into this sort of work?
To become a Care Manager a professional level qualification in Nursing, Social Work or Occupational Therapy and registration with the relevant professional body is essential. To undertake these courses 2 'A' Levels or equivalent and Maths and English key skills are needed.

Salary: Salary depends on the organisation that you work for. Care Managers would be on a career grade with salary between £31,000 and £39,000 depending on qualifications and fulfilment of required competencies.
Hours: 37.5 Hours per week
Annual leave: 29 days plus bank holidays
