Job title
Day Centre Manager - Older People's Service.

How did you come to be working in Social Care?
I started working in administration in a day centre and worked up through finance and HR and training, all within Day Centre settings.

What is your working pattern?
I work full time Monday to Friday during office hours.

How long have you been working in this role?
I have managed St Nicholas day centre for 2 ½ years prior to that I worked for 8 years with Age Concern.

Could you briefly describe a "typical" day?
I ensure that the centre is ready to recruit clients, brief staff, talk to carers, liaise with care managers, attend meetings, spend time with clients , update care plan and much more.

What is the best thing about your job?
Although my working day has a structure, no two days are the same, interaction with clients, carers and my staff are the best things about he work that I do.

My ambition for the future
To ensure that day care reflects the changing needs and wants of older people now and in the future.

How would people get into this sort of work?
There is no one route to becoming a Day Centre Manager. It is possible to start working in a direct care role and complete training on the job in order to get promoted. People often work in residential services and then move into day services.
