Care Ambassador profile: Beth

Current job title
I have 2 part time jobs both within social care - Person centred planning co-ordinator and Day service modernisation project manager.

How did you come to be working in Social Care?
I started working as a carer in my University holidays while studying for a degree. When I finished university I started full time in residential care work. From this I moved into supporting people in the day time.

What is your working pattern?
2 part time jobs - I balance both together during normal office hours.

How long have you been working in this role?
1 year

Could you briefly describe a "typical" day?
No day is the same - very varied but fun! A mixture of hands on work and working with various partners. e.g. family carers, people with a learning disabilities, professionals; every day is a challenge - but a good challenge.

What is the best thing about your job?
It is varied and you get to support people to be as independent a possible, I love seeing people make progress and make the changes to their lives that are important to them.

My ambition for the future
For more people to have their own person centred plan and to be leading their lives in the way that they want to.

How would people get into this sort of work?
For my person centred planning role they would need to have experience of working with people who have a learning disability, understand some of the issues that they face and have experience of supporting people with their person centred plan. For the project management work that I do you would also need a recognised management or project management qualification.
