Volunteering opportunities

The range of volunteering opportunities is huge and probably the only problem for many people is finding the time to get involved, but whatever time you can put in will be rewarding and beneficial.

You may wish to volunteer on your own or with a team and the opportunities vary from one to one involvement, such as mentoring or driving, to team activities in conservation or sport.

Volunteers are needed in all areas and are as many and varied as there are people with time, interest and enthusiasm to share.

  • individual fulfilment
  • new social life
  • use your skills and talents in a different way
  • learn new skills

As part of a group

  • task sharing
  • completing a challenge
  • personal satisfaction
  • new experiences

Or even as part of your career

There is a wide variety of volunteering opportunities available both nationally and around the world. If you have a skill such as engineering, teaching or healthcare, these are very much in demand. Without such skills you are likely to have to pay your own costs for travel and accommodation. Don't let this put you off, always do some research before committing to anything.

No Time to Volunteer?

With today's fast moving lifestyles you may not have time to volunteer, so have you considered Payroll Giving ? Giving in this way allows individuals to donate money through their company payroll and because you won't have to pay tax on the donation, the charity gets more. Ask your payroll section if your company already supports charities in this way, they may run a scheme in conjunction with a prize lottery.

To find out more about what's available in your area contact your Local Volunteer Centre or Bureaux for local interest groups.
