It's about giving your time to do something useful,
without getting paid to do it.
At first sight it may seem a bit one-sided, but in return you
get the satisfaction of time and effort well spent. You'll also
find that volunteering can be a great way to meet new people, learn
new skills and gain experience along the way, and - it should be
fun.
There's a wide variety of
volunteering opportunities available to suit whatever skills
you already have, or you could try something you've never done
before. If you'd like to know what's available in your area,
contact your local
Volunteer Centre or Bureau or visit your local library and
check out the local interest groups.
Whichever route you take, don't be afraid to ask questions so
that you're clear about what to expect from any volunteering
