Kent Volunteers

For many people becoming a volunteer is not a conscious decision but something that happens quite by chance. From a simple offer of help at a school fete, shopping for a neighbour, washing the five-a-side kit, a love of gardening or being a listening ear to someone at a stressful time.

Whatever the reason, volunteering brings its own rewards and satisfactions - like learning new life skills, increased social life, improving your local community and much, much more.

Contact your Volunteer Centre or Bureau to find out the sorts of activities you could get involved with. Whatever your choices, your volunteering will be appreciated and rewarding.

About Us

Kent Volunteers

Kent County Council's 'Next Four Years Plan for Kent' promised to "Promote Kent Volunteers to encourage people of all ages and in every community to help local voluntary and charitable bodies and encourage its own staff to volunteer their help."

In the Towards 2010 programme for Kent, the Council's Leader, Paul Carter, says 'Everyone has a part to play in shaping the future of our county. We will work closely with other bodies such as district, parish and town councils, the police, health bodies, the business community, faith groups, voluntary organisations and volunteers to deliver these commitments'.

These aims are shared by those who work in the voluntary sector and businesses who recognise the benefits of volunteering to all concerned.

Across Kent, in towns and rural communities, thousands of people are already involved in voluntary activities. Volunteering opportunities are as many and as varied as there are people with time, interests and enthusiasm to share.

Voluntary Sector

Kent has the largest number of registered charities outside of Metropolitan districts and an extensive number of voluntary groups. This reflects the time and expertise given by volunteers in the county. Without this generosity, so many organisations and projects could not survive. This shows the value of volunteers from all walks of life.

Business Sector

Businesses support voluntary activity by offering their assets which can be financial, staff time, skills, premises and equipment. Local employers and employees show many examples of ways that volunteering can be fun, fulfilling and make a real difference to life in Kent.

Volunteers come from all walks of life and are needed in all areas and activities.

Become a volunteer, shape your community, shape your Kent.
