Coastal regeneration

Dover beachKent's coastline is one of its most precious assets. But our coastal towns - as elsewhere - face declining tourism and, in some cases, port traffic. Many are in regeneration priority areas so we have prioritised the coastal strip from Queenborough to Lydd. Here, our initial focus is on:

  • Margate
  • Ramsgate
  • Dover
  • Folkestone.

We are working on a wide range of regeneration initiatives to add to the work of area partnerships and draw funding from public and private investors. This includes tackling run-down empty properties; support for tourism and existing businesses; and the creation of new jobs, homes, schools, parks, streets, squares and cultural facilities to make our seaside towns places that people want to live in, work in and visit.

Business investment is also important, in June 2006 Kent County Council acquired land at Manston Park and is now working with Thanet District Council to bring this forward for development with the nearby Eurokent site helping to provide high quality employment land and jobs.
