Urban regeneration

Thames Gateway North Kent

Thames Gateway is one of the Government's major growth areas.

Some 50,000 homes and 80,000 jobs are planned over the next 20 years.

The development will combine 21st century urban villages and city-style living close to a new passenger station at Ebbsfleet that connects the area to London in 17 minutes and Paris/Brussels in 90 minutes. This will provide an ideal business choice for companies wanting:

  • a strategic location
  • innovative design
  • high quality of life.

Dartford, Gravesend, Northfleet, Swanscombe, Queenborough, Rushenden and Sittingbourne will see exciting new mixed-use developments such as The Bridge at Dartford, and Fastrack, a highly innovative and successful Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system.

Plans for these areas will allow careful integration of new and existing developments and make sure there is real gain for local people.

A connecting system of green corridors, stunning new parklands and wildlife habitats is a major consideration for all new development.

Ashford

In Ashford the vision is for a Garden City with new mixed-use urban villages, parks, student campus and revived town centre. Some 30,000 homes and 29,000 jobs will be created over the next 25 years with innovative transport projects, such as Smartlink, and a new town centre road scheme helping to bring about this transformation.
