A nationality checking service is available to all
applicants for British nationality.
What is the nationality checking service?
The nationality checking service is a partnership between the
Home Office nationality group and Kent County Council. It offers an
optional service to people applying for British nationality.
The nationality checking service team will check that all
applications for British nationality are completed correctly, are
submitted with all the necessary documents and the correct fee.
They will photocopy and certify valuable documents such as
passports and will forward applications to the Home Office
nationality group by special delivery post.
Why should I use the service?
Applications to the Home Office which are correctly completed
and have all the correct documents tend to be resolved more
quickly.
Using the new service, applicants can ensure peace of mind that
their applications are complete.
They will be able to retain their original personal documents
including their passports, while their applications are under
consideration.
How do I use the service?
You should contact our nationality checking service team by
telephone on 08458 247 400.
They will be able to give you more information about the scheme
and make an appointment for you to visit the Maidstone register
office to submit your application.
How much does it cost to use the service?
Application - £51 per person (valid from 1 April 2009 - 31 March
2010)
The full fee will be payable on making the appointment booking.
Fees cannot be refunded if you fail to keep your appointment, amend
the date or time of your appointment with less than 24 hours
notice, or if your application does not meet the requirements to be
forwarded to the Home Office.
Please note: Home Office fees for nationality applications do
not include fees charged by Kent County Council for the use of the
nationality checking service.
Do I have to use the Kent
County Council checking service?
No. You may still choose to forward your application direct to
the Home Office yourself or to use a solicitor or other agent if
you wish.
